You will get to learn about the history of Rwanda from the pre-colonial days to date (including the 1994 genocide), as well as witness the remarkable transformation the country has witnessed since after the genocide.
Lunch in Kigali, before departing towards Ruhengeri. The drive to Ruhengeri takes approximately two and half hours. You will arrive in the early evening at the Volcanoes National park.
Dinner and overnight at Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge Or Mountain Gorilla View Lodge
On this day, you will take an early breakfast at the lodge, before registration for the gorilla trek at 7.00AM. The registration is a simple process by which the park staff determine which group of gorillas you will visit, depending on your fitness levels. (Gorilla tracking can be a strenous activity requiring reasonably good fitness levels). The park staff will advise you about the trekking times, and the weather conditions, and other necessary details regarding each of the various groups of gorillas based upon their location within the park the previous evening.
NB: Only 88 gorilla permits are available each day, and the maximum number of trekkers allowed to visit any one group of gorillas is eight (8).
After you are grouped for the trekking, your assigned group lead guide will brief you of the trekking procedures, and the “do’s and don’ts”. Thereafter, you will return to your respective vehicle for the drive up the mountain to the gorilla trekking start point. The trek may take two to six hours, depending on the location of the gorillas. Along the way, your guides may give you time to stop for a rest or photography.
After the trek, rejoin your driver guide for a transfer to the lodge for lunch.
You will then depart from foothills of the volcanoes, drive southwards past past the scenic coffee, tea and banana plantations, on your way back to Kigali.
The drive will transfer you to the airport for your departure flight.
